november 1930, northwest territories canada. fur trapper joe labelle passes through a small inuit village on anjikuni lake that he'd visited before. 25-30 people, people he knew. all gone. food cooking over fires that had gone cold. kayaks left on shore (inuit don't leave their kayaks). rifles left ……
