Sagas talk about a "sólarsteinn", sunstone, that let sailors find the sun when it was hidden behind clouds or below the horizon. for ages people filed this under fairy tale, like ok sure magic rock. how do you navigate the north atlantic with no compass (Vikings didnt have the magnetic compass yet) ……
